Having a pet greatly improves the physical and emotional well-being of senior citizens, yet many senior citizens are on fixed incomes and may need to be hospitalized from time to time. The question arises, where do the pets go if there is no family nearby to help?
We have used in-home foster homes for many pets, but this is not an option for many other pets due to health, disease, or behavior. To help these pets, a fostering facility was needed. Thanks to our supporters, we have built our Home Away From Home respite care facility. This facility allows us to provide care for dogs of seniors for up to 30 days, allowing the senior to focus on their own health needs without having to worry about their pet. The dogs are in a climate-controlled, clean, safe facility with fenced areas to run and play. We also have a "Home Life" area where the dogs can hang out on a couch with a volunteer, watch TV, or just get cuddles. |
